Collection: ORIGINAL VINTAGE BRITISH RAILWAY POSTERS

British railway posters were made to get people onto trains. They promoted seaside resorts, cathedral cities, countryside, sporting events and days out, often commissioning accomplished illustrators and designers to turn a destination into an image that could be understood at a glance.

The result is one of the richest areas of British poster collecting. Different railway companies, regions, artists and periods developed their own character, and surviving posters can vary considerably in size and condition. This collection brings together original examples, with the date, artist, issuer, format and condition described individually wherever known.

Older railway posters were working advertising, so signs of handling are not unusual. Our condition & grading guide explains how we assess them, and the framing guide covers displaying large originals safely.
