A.M. Cassandre made speed, scale and modern life look extraordinarily simple. Trains become lines of movement, ocean liners become vast geometric shapes and typography is treated as part of the image rather than something added afterwards. Nearly a century later, much of his work still looks startlingly modern.

That longevity means collectors need to pay attention to dates. Famous Cassandre designs have appeared as period originals, later authorised editions, exhibition posters and modern reproductions, so the date of the artwork and the date of the physical sheet are not necessarily the same thing. We identify the individual printing as clearly as possible on every listing.
