Espana 82, or the 1982 FIFA World Cup, was a tournament held between 13th June – 11th July 1982. Hosted across Spain at 17 stadiums in cities, the tournament was won by Italy who defeated West Germany 3-1 in the final at the Bernabeu in Madrid. Featuring the likes of Platini, Zoff and Socrates, it was Paolo Rossi who won the Golden Ball for best player, Golden Ball for top scorer, and a winners medal.
The country commissioned famous artists to create posters to celebrate the event, with the main host country poster designed by the iconic Joan Miro. 14 posters were designed each by a different artist for the host cities of Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Elche, Gijon, La Coruna, Madrid, Malaga, Oviedo, Sevilla, Valencia, Valladoid, Vigo, and Zaragoza.
This abstract piece for Bilbao was designed by iconic Basque sculptor painter and artist Eduardo Chillida, and is in mint condition.
