40 Carrats

Released in 1973, "40 Carats" is a romantic comedy directed by Milton Katselas and starring Liv Ullmann, Edward Albert, Gene Kelly and Binnie Barnes. Adapted from the popular stage play, the film follows successful New York businesswoman Ann Stanley, whose brief holiday romance with a much younger man becomes unexpectedly complicated when he later appears in her life as her daughter’s new boyfriend.

The film brought together an accomplished international cast and offered Liv Ullmann a rare leading role in a sophisticated American comedy. Ullmann received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, while Leonard Gershe’s adaptation was nominated by the Writers Guild of America, helping secure the film’s place among the polished adult romantic comedies of the early 1970s.

This original US one-sheet poster was issued for the film’s first theatrical release in 1973.
