Released in 1976, "Bittersweet Love" is a romantic drama directed by David Miller and starring Lana Turner, Robert Lansing, Celeste Holm, Scott Hylands and Meredith Baxter. The story follows a newly married young couple whose happiness is shattered when they discover that they share the same biological father, forcing them and their families to confront a devastating emotional and moral crisis.
The film approaches its controversial premise as a serious domestic melodrama rather than sensational exploitation. It is especially notable as one of Lana Turner’s final feature-film appearances and for its ensemble of established and emerging performers. The production reflects the franker treatment of family secrets and social taboos that became increasingly common in American cinema during the 1970s.
