Originally released in 1972, "Last Tango in Paris" is a controversial erotic drama directed by Bernardo Bertolucci and starring Marlon Brando, Maria Schneider and Jean-Pierre Léaud. Brando plays Paul, a grieving American expatriate who begins an anonymous relationship with a young Parisian woman in an empty apartment, drawing both characters into an increasingly destructive encounter shaped by grief, power and emotional isolation.
The film became one of the most debated international releases of the 1970s, attracting major critical attention, censorship and legal controversy for its explicit content and treatment of sexual violence. Brando’s raw performance was widely acclaimed and earned an Academy Award nomination, while Vittorio Storaro’s cinematography and Bertolucci’s direction secured the film an enduring, if deeply contested, place in art-house cinema history.
This original US one-sheet poster was issued for the film’s early-1980s American re-release.
