This 1971 Walt Disney double-feature paired "The Living Desert" and "The Vanishing Prairie", two landmark entries in the studio’s True-Life Adventures documentary series. "The Living Desert", first released in 1953, explores the remarkable survival strategies of animals in the American Southwest, while the 1954 follow-up turns its attention to the wildlife and seasonal rhythms of the Great Plains.
Both films were directed by James Algar and helped redefine the theatrical nature documentary through dramatic editing, humour and vivid Technicolor photography. Each won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, and together they remain among the most influential and widely remembered achievements of Disney’s pioneering wildlife unit.
This original US one-sheet was created for the films’ 1971 theatrical double-bill release.
