The Rainmaker

Released in 1997, "The Rainmaker" is a legal drama written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, based on John Grisham’s bestselling novel. Starring Matt Damon, Danny DeVito, Claire Danes, Jon Voight, Mary Kay Place and Mickey Rourke, it follows newly qualified lawyer Rudy Baylor as he takes on a powerful insurance company accused of denying life-saving treatment to a terminally ill young man.

The film was well received for its measured direction, strong ensemble cast and humane approach to the courtroom thriller. It provided Damon with his first major leading role shortly before his breakthrough with "Good Will Hunting," and is often regarded as one of the most accomplished and character-driven screen adaptations of Grisham’s work.
