Robert McGinnis painted some of the most instantly recognisable silhouettes in movie-poster history. Long limbs, dramatic poses and confident colour — his figures do a huge amount of storytelling before you even register the title.

He is best known for his run of James Bond campaigns, but his reach went well beyond spy films into pulp paperback covers, glamour illustration and other genre cinema.

The Bond Silhouette

Barbarella is one of the best examples of his style away from Bond: a single confident figure, dramatic pose, and colour doing as much work as the drawing itself.

Bond campaigns in particular exist across many countries, formats and re-releases, so the specific issue matters as much as the artwork.

Good to Know

Bond campaigns were reissued and reworked across many countries and decades. The same McGinnis pose can appear on posters with completely different layouts, taglines and formats — confirm the exact issue before buying.

A Note for Collectors

Confirm country, format, release and printing date rather than relying on the pose or artwork alone — our sizes & formats guide covers how the same campaign can differ dramatically between a US One-Sheet, British Quad and other national formats.
