Originally released in 1961, "Nikki: Wild Dog of the North" is a Walt Disney wilderness adventure directed by Jack Couffer and Don Haldane. Based on James Oliver Curwood’s novel "Nomads of the North", the film follows a malamute named Nikki and an orphaned bear cub as they struggle to survive together in the Canadian wilderness before Nikki is captured by a brutal trapper.
Blending dramatic animal photography with a rugged adventure story, the film belongs to Disney’s celebrated tradition of nature-based family entertainment. It was recognised by the American Cinema Editors with an Eddie Award for its editing and has remained admired for its remarkable wildlife footage and emotional bond between its animal characters.
This original US one-sheet was issued for the film’s 1972 theatrical re-release, rather than its initial 1961 campaign.
