Saul Bass’s startling yellow-and-black design gives this original 1980 US one-sheet a look all of its own. A grainy face appears inside the title lettering beneath “A Masterpiece of Modern Horror”, creating an uneasy image without relying on a conventional film still.
Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel stars Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall at the isolated Overlook Hotel. Its carefully controlled spaces and mounting tension have made it one of the most discussed films in horror cinema.
