Collection: ORIGINAL VINTAGE LINEN BACKED POSTERS

Linen backing is a conservation treatment, not a different kind of poster. An original paper poster is mounted onto a supportive backing system to stabilise the sheet, flatten historic folds and, where necessary, support tears or sympathetic restoration. It is particularly common with older film, travel and advertising posters.

This collection brings together original posters that have been linen backed. The amount of conservation work can vary considerably, so we describe known restoration and condition individually rather than assuming that a backed poster is either untouched or heavily restored.
