Released in 1966, "Stop the World – I Want to Get Off" is a musical film directed by Philip Saville and starring Tony Tanner and Millicent Martin. Adapted from the stage success by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, the story follows the ambitious Littlechap from childhood to old age as he repeatedly halts the circus-like action to reflect on career, marriage, infidelity and the compromises of a life spent pursuing success.
The original musical was a major West End and Broadway hit, and the film preserves its inventive theatrical structure and celebrated score. Its best-known song, "What Kind of Fool Am I?", became a popular standard and won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year, giving the production a lasting place in the history of British musical theatre and screen adaptation.
This original US one-sheet poster was issued for the film’s original Warner Bros. theatrical release in 1966.
