Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell bring all their star power to this original British poster for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The illustrated figures, colourful lettering and Parisian setting capture the glamour and good humour of Howard Hawks’ 1953 musical comedy. It is a wonderfully lively design from a golden period of Hollywood poster art.
Monroe’s Lorelei Lee and Russell’s Dorothy Shaw set sail for Paris with romance and riches on their minds, delivering a series of sparkling musical numbers along the way. Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend became one of Monroe’s signature performances, but the chemistry between the two leads is at the heart of the film. The poster celebrates that partnership with plenty of personality.
