Bold striped colour, expressive portraits and lively lettering make this original British poster for Anatomy of a Murder a wonderful piece of 1950s film advertising. The design brings James Stewart and Lee Remick to the fore, offering a colourful introduction to Otto Preminger’s gripping courtroom drama.
Released in 1959, the film follows a small-town lawyer into a case where the evidence and the people involved resist easy answers. Stewart’s performance is matched by an outstanding supporting cast, while Duke Ellington’s score gives the drama a strikingly modern atmosphere. Its combination of ambiguity, character and jazz still makes it one of the great legal dramas.
