Hombre

Released in 1967, "Hombre" is a revisionist Western directed by Martin Ritt and starring Paul Newman, Fredric March, Richard Boone and Diane Cilento. Adapted from Elmore Leonard’s novel, it follows John Russell, a white man raised by Apaches, who is treated with hostility by fellow stagecoach passengers until an outlaw attack forces them to depend on his skill and judgement.

The film was the sixth collaboration between Newman and Ritt and is now regarded as one of the most intelligent Westerns of the 1960s. Its unsentimental treatment of prejudice, moral courage and cultural identity, together with Newman’s restrained performance, helped move the genre away from simple heroism toward the darker concerns of the revisionist Western.

This original US one-sheet is dated 1966, having been produced ahead of the film’s 1967 theatrical release. Folded as issued and retaining its authentic vintage character, the poster is offered in the condition shown in the listing photographs. Its stark imagery makes it an important original collectible associated with Newman’s Western career.
