Tom Jung’s sweeping artwork brings Luke, Leia, Han Solo and Darth Vader together in this original 1982 re-release poster for The Empire Strikes Back. The striking teal background gives this version its own distinctive atmosphere, setting off the dramatic figures and the unmistakable Star Wars lettering.
Directed by Irvin Kershner, the 1980 film took the saga into darker territory, introducing Yoda and deepening the story of Luke’s family. Jung’s talent for theatrical composition helped give the series some of its most memorable advertising images. His arrangement of heroes and looming menace captures the scale of the adventure without losing its human drama.
