The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

Released in 1972, "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" is a revisionist Western directed by John Huston from a screenplay by John Milius. Paul Newman plays Roy Bean, an outlaw who appoints himself judge in a remote Texas settlement and dispenses his own eccentric version of frontier justice. The extensive supporting cast includes Ava Gardner, Jacqueline Bisset, Anthony Perkins, Stacy Keach, Roddy McDowall and Victoria Principal.

Loosely inspired by the historical Justice of the Peace known as the “Law West of the Pecos”, the film mixes myth, satire, violence and melancholy. Maurice Jarre’s song "Marmalade, Molasses & Honey" received an Academy Award nomination, while the theatrical artwork by acclaimed illustrator Richard Amsel became one of the most memorable poster designs of Newman’s career.

This original US one-sheet was produced for the film’s 1972 theatrical release. The celebrated Amsel artwork gives the poster strong appeal as an authentic piece of 1970s Western advertising.
