Released in 1956, "Anastasia" is a historical drama directed by Anatole Litvak and starring Ingrid Bergman, Yul Brynner and Helen Hayes. Inspired by the enduring mystery surrounding Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna, the film follows a group of Russian émigrés who train an amnesiac woman to impersonate the surviving Romanov princess, only to question whether she may truly be Anastasia.
The film marked Bergman’s celebrated Hollywood return after several years working in Europe. Her emotionally layered performance won the Academy Award for Best Actress and the Golden Globe, restoring her position among the era’s leading stars. The lavish production, romantic intrigue and ambiguity surrounding Anna’s identity have helped the picture remain one of the best-known screen treatments of the Romanov legend.
This original US one-sheet was issued for the film’s 1956 theatrical release.
