Released in 1956, "Man in the Vault" is a compact film noir directed by Andrew V. McLaglen and starring William Campbell, Karen Sharpe and Anita Ekberg. Campbell plays Tommy Dancer, an honest young locksmith who is coerced by gangsters into opening a safety-deposit box and becomes trapped between a criminal conspiracy, a stolen fortune and his growing affection for a woman connected to the scheme.
Based on Frank Gruber’s novel "The Lock and the Key", the film marked McLaglen’s feature directorial debut and was produced by John Wayne’s Batjac company. Its Los Angeles locations, efficient Burt Kennedy screenplay and hard-edged supporting players give the picture the brisk atmosphere of a late-period noir, while Ekberg’s appearance adds considerable period glamour.
This original US one-sheet was issued for the film’s 1956 theatrical release by RKO Radio Pictures.
