This wonderful poster features Francis Bacon's portrait of Michel Leiris, the French writer and ethnographer who was also a friend of the artist. The expressive image shows Bacon's distinctive approach to portraiture, with the sitter's features transformed through shifting forms and colour. Printed in 2017, this offset reproduction is from an edition stated as 500.
Francis Bacon was one of the most influential figurative painters of the twentieth century. His powerful portraits use distorted forms and expressive brushwork to explore the physical and psychological presence of the sitter, creating images that are immediately recognisable.
