This beautiful poster features René Gruau's celebrated Le Rouge Baiser design for the French cosmetics brand. First created in 1950, the striking image uses a red headscarf, dark silhouette and bold lipstick to create an instantly recognisable composition. This smaller offset printing dates from the 1970s.
René Gruau was one of the great fashion illustrators of the twentieth century, with a style built around confident brushwork, sweeping lines and carefully chosen colour. His images for fashion and beauty brands often reduce a scene to just a few expressive elements, giving them an elegance that remains instantly recognisable.
