This beautiful screenprinted poster was created by Franco Costa for the 1988 Vasaloppet Procordia Trophy. First held in 1922, Sweden's famous long-distance ski race runs between Sälen and Mora and has become one of the great events in winter sport. The 1988 race was especially memorable for the shared victory of brothers Anders and Örjan Blomqvist.
Italian artist Franco Costa brought his distinctive blocks of bright colour to the worlds of sport and travel. Particularly celebrated for his work connected with sailing and the America's Cup, he had a wonderful ability to suggest movement through simple shapes. Here, that same lively graphic approach captures the energy of skiing.
