Released in 1964, "A Distant Trumpet" is a cavalry Western directed by Raoul Walsh and starring Troy Donahue, Suzanne Pleshette, Diane McBain and William Reynolds. Based on Paul Horgan’s novel, the story follows a newly commissioned officer assigned to a remote Arizona fort, where personal rivalries, romance and conflict with the Apache shape his understanding of military duty.
The film was the final feature directed by Walsh, bringing to a close a career that had spanned the silent era through the classical Hollywood studio system. William H. Clothier’s widescreen location photography and Max Steiner’s sweeping score give the production an impressive scale, while its treatment of Native American characters is more reflective than many earlier cavalry Westerns.
This original US one-sheet was issued for the film’s 1964 theatrical release by Warner Bros.
