This original 1979 poster was created by Larry Rivers for the twentieth anniversary of Lincoln Center in New York. The colourful birthday-cake design celebrates two decades of music, theatre and dance at one of the city's most important cultural venues. The pencil-signed poster was issued in an edition of 108.
Larry Rivers brought together the expressive handling of Abstract Expressionism and the everyday imagery associated with Pop Art. A painter, printmaker and musician, his lively work often draws on cultural history and the energy of New York life.
