Released in France in 1966 and in the United States in 1967, "The Game Is Over" is a romantic drama directed by Roger Vadim and starring Jane Fonda, Michel Piccoli and Peter McEnery. Loosely inspired by Émile Zola’s novel "La Curée", it follows a young woman trapped in a cold marriage who begins a destructive affair with her husband’s troubled son.
The film belongs to the provocative European period of Fonda’s career and reflects Vadim’s recurring interest in desire, decadence and emotional power. Its fashionable mid-1960s interiors, elegant photography and morally complicated relationships make it a striking example of continental art-house melodrama marketed to American audiences.
This original US one-sheet was issued for the film’s 1967 American theatrical release and was folded as issued.
