Sean Connery’s Bond appears in wetsuit and orange jacket in Robert McGinnis’ superb artwork for this original 1965 Thunderball poster. The expansive composition and confident red lettering make a spectacular impression in the large American subway format, created to catch attention well beyond the cinema foyer.
Thunderball was Connery’s fourth outing as 007, taking the adventure to the Bahamas with underwater action on a grand scale. McGinnis’ elegant figures and assured sense of glamour helped shape the visual identity of the Bond series. This design combines that sophisticated illustration with the larger-than-life promise of the film’s original campaign.
