This vibrant 1991 poster was published by Achenbach Art Editions after Gerhard Richter’s 1982 painting Tisch. Brilliant passages of red, yellow and orange meet deep blue and sweeping dark marks, creating an abstract composition full of movement. It is a wonderful example of the intensity and visual richness of Richter’s work in this period.
Richter moved freely between photographic paintings and abstraction, exploring the different ways an image can hold our attention. In works such as Tisch, layers of paint and contrasting gestures create spaces that seem to shift as you look. The title means Table, but this is a distinct abstract painting from 1982, rather than the famous black-and-white table painting he made twenty years earlier.
